If only he who has suffered can no true joy, Zverev might just be the happiest man ever to live – he’s certainly the happiest alive now, and what a feeling that must be. We think the extremes of emotion we experience watching all this are intense, because they are, but the extent of what the players go through is unfathomable to anyone but them, and even then. When Zverev lost to Sinner in that Aussie Open final, it seemed like something inside him left, and had things not worked in his favour here, I doubt he’d have got to this point.
