Welcome to Thursday’s edition of the RaceFans round-up.

Comment of the day

Some readers are taking Nico Hulkenberg’s advice that fans who aren’t happy with Formula 1’s latest rules should stop watching:

The Hulk has a valid point! This will be the last month that I will spend my money on the F1 subscription and use that money to follow other series – no reason to stick around and complain.

This version of F1 isn’t my cup of tea.

Power ups: How F1’s Additional Development Upgrade Opportunities will be applied and what’s changing (FIA)

Nikolas Tombazis: ‘It’s important to make clear that ADUO is not a kind of balance of performance mechanism. A team or manufacturer will not suddenly get greater fuel flow rate or more or less ballast. It is, in fact, a Cost Cap relief mechanism, where a (power unit) manufacturer meeting ADUO criteria during a review period is given an opportunity to develop its engine through a downward adjustment.’

Katherine Legge doing Indy 500 and Charlotte 600. Because ‘Why not?’ (Detroit Free Press)

‘Legge will pilot the number 11 Chevrolet for HMD Motorsports with AJ Foyt Racing in the Indy 500, then get behind the wheel of the number 78 Chevrolet for Live Fast Motorsports in Charlotte.’

Motegi decommissions its speedway oval (Racer)

‘Portions of the 1.5-mile asymmetrical oval will be covered with grass and transformed into a luxury spectator viewing deck on one end, and a camping site at the other end. These new sites will be completed in time for the Moto GP Japanese Grand Prix in October, with tickets for these areas already on sale.’

‘We had 17 partners generating no money’: How Williams rebuilt their sponsorship model from scratch (Black Book Motorsport)

‘That relationship, which saw Williams promote the Michelob Ultra brand for two years, has become the benchmark for Williams’ approach to sponsorships. ‘I kid you not, that one deal was worth more than the 17 other deals that we’d had the previous year – and it wasn’t a big deal,’ says Kenyon.’

Grandstand sell-out sets stage for epic Indianapolis 500 race day (IndyCar)

‘IMS is the world’s largest spectator sporting facility, and the Indy 500 is annually the largest spectator sporting event on the planet, hosting a crowd of approximately 350,000 people. The massive grandstands around the 116-year-old 2.5-mile oval will be completely filled on Indy 500 race day.’
