Those in charge of Formula 1 have allowed its new rules to turn racing into a ‘battle of the bots’, says @RedPill:
I felt there was going to be some trust and proper direction within FIA and Liberty Media who owns the rights to F1 to make sure the quality of (human) racing was going to remain high quality. Boy, we were wrong. The whole debacle and agreed verbiage in contacts allowed the power unit manufacturers and investors to pretty much be the ones to dictate what was going to be allowed in F1, while retaining huge powers in the wording to prevent changes.
Fans, drivers, teams, FIA and Liberty Media are now stuck with it. I hate how the drivers are more passengers in their own cars while racing. Yes, there’s too much going in the cars, that the drivers can’t possibly manage everything and race in full anger, but this is no secret or anything new. The powers that be needed to craft specifications that used the latest tech, but still retain the drivers’ ability to fully race the car, the way a race car driver is suppose to race. That is why we watch the races.
We come and watch these F1 races because there’s humans in control of brilliant machinery, racing them to the ninth degree, but there’s a limit. If I wanted to watch automated machinery duke it out and see battle of bots I would instead go to robot contests, not F1.
