Video: IndyCar begins Markham practice a day late after track problems | Brief

IndyCar finally debuted on its new street circuit in Markham a day later than planned after construction delays at the Canadian circuit at turn six.

Championship leader Alex Palou set the pace, lapping the 12-turn, 3.5-kilometre circuit in 1’14.9915. Unsurprisingly, conditions on the track were very slippery and several drivers were caught out at different turns, including Kyffin Simpson who clipped a barrier.

The new street circuit is also extremely tight in places, notably at turn five, where drivers perform a 180-degree turn on Enterprise Boulevard. The ultra-narrow hairpin could rival the final corner at Long Beach as one of the sharpest corners on the calendar and overtaking there could prove tricky in tomorrow’s race.
