By Ferrari have published extracts of a video interview with the team’s founder Enzo Ferrari, who died on this day in 1988.

He described how he saw his role in bringing talented designers and engineers together – and hinted at the level of internal friction he felt was necessary to get the best from them.
“I did not have the opportunity to pursue my studies, I stopped at what was then known as the third technical level which today would correspond to the end of compulsory education,” said Ferrari. “However, throughout my life, I have always surrounded myself with highly educated and capable people, and above all by people driven by the desire to succeed.
“A love for the automobile was the first quality, the first characteristic, that I needed to discover in someone before hiring them.
“My task was to stir up problems, to spark meetings and by listening to the contrasting opinions of my collaborators and to use the modest ability for synthesis that I have always possessed to make decisions.”
