NEW DELHI: Security forces on Saturday launched a multi-area search operation across multiple areas in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district to trace suspected terrorists believed to be operating in the region, officials said. The operation comes days after an infiltration bid was foiled in the Mankote area of Mendhar tehsil on May 12, in which one intruder was killed. Army and police teams carried out extensive combing operations in more than five locations across the district as part of intensified anti-terror measures, officials added. Security has also been tightened across Poonch following the killing of the infiltrator in the Krishna Ghati sector along the Line of Control (LoC). Additional checkpoints have been set up, while vehicles are being subjected to strict inspection. Officials also said there were unconfirmed reports suggesting the possible presence of a high-profile foreign terrorist in the Valley, though no official confirmation has been issued so far, reported PTI.
