Erode Collector inspects Census 2027 house-listing work

District Collector S. Kandasamy on Saturday inspected the first phase of the Census 2027 house-listing and housing census operations at Karumandichellipalayam Town Panchayat in Perundurai taluk.

The Collector visited MGR Nagar and Narayana Layout, where enumerators were carrying out door-to-door house-listing, and reviewed the enumeration process, including the recording of household particulars, use of the mobile application for data entry, and the accuracy of data collected. He instructed enumerators to interact courteously with residents and ensure that details of every household were recorded accurately in accordance with the government’s guidelines. He also directed them to reassure the public that all information collected during the census would be kept confidential under the provisions of the Census Act and to seek their full cooperation.

The first phase of Census 2027, comprising house-listing and housing census operations, commenced across the district on August 1 and will continue till August 30.

According to the district administration, 4,464 enumerators, 779 supervisors, 5,043 House Listing Block (HLB) officials and 60 Charge Officers have been deployed for the exercise. In addition, 5,243 field personnel, including 4,059 teachers and 1,184 Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) workers, have been engaged. Around 7.87 lakh houses are expected to be covered during the enumeration.

The district administration appealed to the public to extend full cooperation to enumerators by providing complete and accurate information, stating that the census provides vital data for planning development programmes, resource allocation and policies relating to education, healthcare and socio-economic development.
