McLaren junior Fornaroli to test for Haas tomorrow | Formula 1

McLaren junior driver Leonardo Fornaroli will test for rivals Haas tomorrow.

The team is allowing the reigning Formula 2 champion to take part in the test to take advantage of the opportunity to develop his skills in another Formula 1 car.

Haas runs a testing programme for junior drivers in conjunction with its technical partner Toyota. Fornaroli will take part in a two-day test at the Jerez circuit, the former home of the Spanish Grand Prix. Haas reserve driver Ryo Hirakawa will also attend the test.

Fornaroli has already tested several times this year for McLaren after joining them late last year. He made his debut in an official Formula 1 practice session with the team at the Circuit de Catalunya last week.

It comes after Fornaroli concluded his latest test in McLaren’s 2023 car at the Monza today. Fornaroli tested alongside McLaren’s simulator driver Will Stevens.

“I’m grateful for McLaren for allowing me to take part in the test tomorrow with Haas,” said Fornaroli. “I’m looking forward to continuing building on my progress.”

Having won the Formula 3 and Formula 2 championships back-to-back over the previous two years, Fornaroli is without a race seat at present. His prospects of promotion to McLaren’s F1 team in the near future look slim as reigning world champion Lando Norris and team mate Oscar Piastri are contracted to continue driving for the team next year.

In addition to Hirakawa, Haas already has former Alpine F1 driver Jack Doohan contracted as a reserve.
