Mercedes request Right of Review over Monaco GP result after Russell penalty | Formula 1
Mercedes has officially requested the FIA review the results of the Monaco Grand Prix.

It has submitted a Right of Review request with the governing body. This is the same process Alpine used to reverse Pierre Gasly two penalties in the race, moving him from seventh place in the initial classification to third.
Separately, McLaren and Red Bull previously served notice of their intention to appeal the decision by the stewards.
The outcome of the race is being disputed after the stewards admitted in their verdict on Gasly that pit lane speeding penalties were issued incorrectly. The stewards said this happened because the pit lane length was measured as being 77 centimetres shorter than it actually was.
RaceFans understands the stewards’ admission is one of the grounds Mercedes intends to use to challenge the race result, along with the fact Gasly’s penalty was reversed.
Five drivers received pit lane speeding penalties during the race including Gasly, who received two, Russell and McLaren driver Oscar Piastri.
Gasly did not serve either of his penalties during the race eight days ago. The stewards cancelled both following a hearing last Thursday.

Unlike Gasly, Russell entered his pit box after receiving his five-second penalty, which meant he should have served it during the race. He was therefore issued a harsher drive-through penalty, which drivers are required to serve within three laps. When Russell served that penalty with seven laps to go he fell from third place to 14th.
Piastri also served his five-second time penalty during the race. The removal of Gasly’s penalties dropped him from fourth place to fifth in the final classification.
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff said last weekend the team had spoken to its lawyers regarding the stewards’ decision to overturn Gasly’s penalty. However he indicated he was doubtful of the team’s chance of success.
“Do we think that we realistically have a position, a chance of reverting the result? I don’t think so,” he said.
“But we definitely have to give it a go if we see that there is a millimetre of chance to do so and bring him back to whatever it was – P4 [or] P3.”
Russell’s team mate Andrea Kimi Antonelli won the race.
The last two Right of Review requests brought by Formula 1 teams have been successful. Before Alpine’s win last week, Williams also succeeded in in challenging Carlos Sainz Jnr’s penalty during last year’s Dutch Grand Prix. However, as Sainz served that penalty in the race, the stewards ruled it could not be overturned.
