By Honda will introduce a ‘spec 2’ version of its RA626H power unit at the Dutch Grand Prix. The Japanese manufacturer is racing to catch up with its rivals after experiencing serious problems with vibration and insufficient power at the start of the sesason.
General trackside manager Shintaro Orihara said the new specification had hit their internal targets. “We focused to improve engine performance to make combustion faster,” he explained in a video released by Honda.
“We changed pre-chamber to make the combustion faster, and also we changed the piston shape also to get good combustion. Also, we modified some of the lubrication system to reduce friction. So we had a quite big risk to improve engine performance.”
