By The Thanjavur MP, S. Murasoli, has said that he would be seeking an inter-city express train, preferably a ‘Vande Bharat’ train, between Thanjavur and Mysore.
The MP told the media here on Sunday that the operation of the self-propelled semi-high-speed service could considerably reduce the travelling time between Thanjavur and Mysuru, from around 14 hours on the existing Cuddalore Port-Mysuru Express.
When pointed out that this fully air-conditioned chair car service, which could run at a speed of 160 kmph and did not require engine reversals at Tiruchi and Erode Junctions, falls in the ‘premium segment’ train services, he said that there exist a good patronage for ‘Vande Bharat’ services as they offer reduced journey time with comfort.
Meanwhile, inquiries reveal that the advance reservation pattern in the existing Cuddalore Port-Mysuru Junction Express witnesses a three tier reservation pattern — between Mysuru and Bengaluru, Bengaluru and Tiruchi/Thanjavur and Tiruchi/Thanjavur and Cuddalore Port.
Of this, higher percentage of advance reservation falls in Bengaluru and Tiruchi/Thanjavur section, sources pointed out validating the MP’s pitch for a ‘premium train service’.
