By IndyCar abandoned attempts to hold Friday practice at its new Markham street circuit in Canada as the race promoters failed to complete construction work in time.

The first practice session was initially postponed until later in the day. IndyCar issued a statement at the time saying: “Once the race promoter has completed the track build and IndyCar deems the circuit safe and appropriate for competition, the first on-track session of the weekend will begin.”
However it subsequently confirmed Friday’s running would not go ahead and practice will instead begin on Saturday.
“Practice One for the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham has been postponed until Saturday at 10am [Eastern Time] as the race promoter completes final track preparations,” said the series in a statement. A second practice session and qualifying is also due to take place on Saturday, followed by warm-up and the 90-lap race on Sunday.
The Markham circuit has replaced Toronto as IndyCar’s sole race in Canada. It is the first of two consecutive rounds at new venues for the series, which will race in Washington next week.
